Raise the Achievement of Students with Dyslexia

A one-day conference led by Lee Pascal
- Gain a detailed understanding of Dyslexia
- Examine practical strategies to give pupils far greater success
|
| ‘Lee Pascal was an inspiration. I not only learnt a great deal to help my pupils but the day was a real tonic. He could make it as a stand-up comedian.’ Mr P. Elm, English Teacher. |
Lee Pascal is a nationally recognised expert on dyslexia and study skills, he is a presenter on Teachers’ TV and is co-author of the successful book ‘Get Better Grades.’ Lee has provided INSET and led conferences for teachers across the country, providing training on behalf of NASEN (National Association for Special Educational Needs), LEAs, R.S.A. Diploma courses and regional dyslexia associations. His training is stimulating, lively and, above all, offers practical solutions to the specific difficulties pupils face both at school and at home. He is a practising dyslexia teacher.
Pupils with dyslexia often have considerable academic potential which goes unrealised at school. Understanding dyslexia and being aware of practical strategies to help these pupils can have a significant impact on their performance and well being.
The Conference will explore the problems that pupils with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) encounter throughout the curriculum. Teachers will gain insights into the pupils’ particular difficulties and will be encouraged to rethink the vocabulary that they use, replacing such commands as ‘Learn this’ or ‘Read over carefully’ with practical exercises to teach academic skills. The course will examine learning techniques, positive reinforcement, proof reading, essay planning, reading skills, spelling strategies and cover target setting, differentiated tasks and communication with parents. Participants will be encouraged to offer specific difficulties encountered in the classroom with a view to discovering practical solutions.
